The role of the
office professional has greatly evolved. Secretaries and administrative
assistants are now responsible for duties once reserved for managerial
and professional staff. They serve as information and communication
managers for an office; plan and schedule travel, meetings and appointments;
organize and maintain paper and electronic files; manage projects;
conduct research; train and orient new staff; create presentations
and spreadsheets.
Choose
from 4 areas of specialization:

Administrative Assistant
•
Computer Accounting Secretary
• Legal Secretary
Legal
secretaries prepare legal papers such as summonses, complaints,
motions, responses and subpoenas under the supervision of an attorney
or a paralegal.
• Medical Secretary
Medical
secretaries transcribe dictation, record simple medical histories,
order supplies, assist physicians and medical professionals with
reports, articles and conference proceedings. They should be familiar
with insurance rules, billing practices and hospital or laboratory
proceedings.
