Electrician

NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research)

This electrical program is designed to teach the skill to start a career as an electrician (Craft Trainee) or participate in Ohio Valley ABC's apprenticeship program for electricians.

The tuition for a Craft Trainee is $1350.00/year.

Start Dates:  

Years 1 & 2

M/W     September - April     6:00-9:00 PM    156 hrs   

Years 3 & 4

T/TH    September - April      6:00-9:00 PM   156 hrs


Year 1 includes safety, math, introduction to hand tools, introduction to blueprints, basic rigging, electrical safety, hand bending, anchors and supports, electrical theory I & II, electrical test equipment, introduction to the NEC, raceway boxes, and fitting conductors, introduction to electrical blueprints, commercial and industrial wiring, residential wiring, first aid and CPR, OSHA 10 certification. Classroom textbook and NEC code book included.

Year 2 includes alternating Current, Motors, Theory and Application, Grounding, Conduit Bending, Boxes and Fittings, Conductor Installations, Cable Tray, Conductor Terminations and Splices, Installation of Electric Services, Circuit Breakers and Fuses, Contactors and Relays, Electric Lighting, and OSHA 10 certification.

Year 3 includes Alternating Current, Motors, Theory and Application, Grounding, Conduit Bending, Boxes and Fittings, Conductor Installations, Cable Tray, Conductor Terminations and Splices, Installation of Electric Services, Circuit Breakers and Fuses, Contactors, and Relays, Electric Lighting, Load Calculations-Conductor Selection-Over Current Protection-Raceway, Box Ballasts, and Components-Motor Calculations, Maintenance and Controls-Electricity in HVACHazardous Locations, and OSHA 30 certification.

Year 4 includes Load Calculations-Feeder and Services, Commercial/Industrial Lighting, Specialty Lighting, Standby and Emergency Systems, Basic Electronic Theory Fire Alarm System, Specialty Transformers, Advanced Controls, HVAC Controls, Welding Machines, Heat Tracing and Freeze Protection, Motor Maintenance Part 2, High Voltage Terminators/Splices, First Aid & CPR, and Fire Alarm certification (per student determination).
