College Bound Student Resources

COLLEGE VISITATION

Apollo permits students to apply for and use, as field trip(s), college and university visitations. Juniors may use one day and seniors may use two days for these visitations. Only a half day will be approved for local schools such as Rhodes, UNOH and OSU Lima. You must complete and turn in the the college visitation form to the Guidance Office in order for your absence to be excused.

COLLEGE GUIDANCE AND APPLICATION ASSISTANCE

Lima/Allen County College Access Program - The College Access program assists residents of Lima and Allen County to pursue education after high school. This program provides free assistance to residents of all ages. Apollo has a College Access representative at Apollo one day each week to aid students in all areas of preparation for college. Stop in the Guidance Office to set up an appointment with our representative.

College Answer - Provides tips and basic information for the college bound student in such areas as applying, making the most of college visits, admissions testing, understanding college options and occupations, etc.

CHOOSING AN AREA OF STUDY

Ohio Career Information System - This site offers students information in a very large variety of areas which includes: Occupation comparisons, expected salaries, career searches, employment forecast, college options and assessment tools. This site gives exhaustive information and is well worth your time. In order to access this site, you will need our Apollo username and password.  Username - apollojv, Password - ohiocis03

United States Department of Labor- You will find this site to be a valuable tool for researching possible occupations as you choose the area you want to study in college. It gives information on hundreds of types of jobs, outlining the training and education needed, earnings, expected job prospects, what workers do on the job and working conditions. 

FINANCIAL AID FOR COLLEGE

FAFSA Forecaster - This site provides students an opportunity to increase their knowledge of the financial aid process; become familiar with the various types of federal student aid that are available; and investigage other sources of aid, such as grants and scholarships. FAFSA4caster will help you get an early start on the financial aid process by providing you with an early estimate of your eligibility for federal student aid. When you're ready to apply for aid, you can easily transition from FAFSA4caster to the official FAFSA form, making the experience of applying for federal student aid much easier.

FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid

You must complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for federal student aid and to apply for most state and college aid. Early application is encouraged. 

SEARCHING FOR A COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY

College and University Search and Information Center - Resources include search tools, scholarship drawings, college information request forms, information on featured colleges and universities, and other resources for students, parents, and counselors.

School Soup - Find information for more than 4,000 colleges and universities in the United States. You can search by viewing all of the schools within a state or by selecting the first letter of the school you wish to find.
